Helpful Tips for Lowering Your Fuel Expenditures
With gas prices expected to stay soaring for at least the rest of the year, it's worth taking some measures to prevent fuel waste. Some of these measures you can do as you go about your day-to-day driving routine, while others can be done quickly and affordably at the shop. At Bay Brothers Automotive, our local mechanics are experts at conducting all types of auto maintenance, and we can complete tasks that will help your vehicle attain better fuel-efficiency.
Simple Ways to Boost MPGs
While driving to work and back each day, there are some fuel-saving measures worth taking. After each time you fill up your tank, you'll want to be sure that your gas cap is returned to a tightly secured position. A loose/missing gas cap can allow fuel to evaporate before your engine gets the chance to put it to use. Another easy way to prevent fuel waste is by driving with correctly inflated tires. In most instances, tire pressure needs to be at a point between 30 and 35 psi. It's best to check your particular tire pressure specifications and then inflate as required. If you're driving with underinflated tires, then your engine will need to expend more power to roll. Consequently, you could see a drop in MPGs.
At our local auto shop, we can complete maintenance tasks that help to optimize fuel-efficiency. Air filters should be changed about every 13,000 miles so that the right amount of air can reach the combustion chamber, which will prevent your engine from burning extra fuel as a way to make up for a shortage of air. Fuel filters should be replaced between 20,000 and 30,000 miles so that pollutants don't harm fuel-economy and engine performance. We can also complete other maintenance measures that help with getting the best gas mileage possible, such as oil changes and installing new spark plugs.
